George IV 18ct gold thistle shaped cup by John Linnit, London 1824, of Scottish interest, possibly referring to the Order of the Thistle or regiments such as the Scots Guards,
modelled as a thistle with matte spiny surface, on a leafy foot and circular base, engraved around the base 'From John Gloag Esq. to John Eddison Esq', further engraved with the national motto of Scotland and adopted motto of the Order of the Thistle: Nemo me impune lacessit (tr. No one provokes me with impunity) and with a crest, hallmarked on underside.
