  • modelled as a thistle with matte spiny surface, on a leafy foot and circular base, engraved around the base 'From John Gloag Esq. to John Eddison Esq', further engraved with the national motto of Scotland and adopted motto of the Order of the Thistle: Nemo me impune lacessit (tr. No one provokes me with impunity) and with a crest, hallmarked on underside.
